PorchLapse privacy policy

What we collect

With your explicit consent, PorchLapse collects still-image snapshots from the Ring cameras you select, at roughly 5-minute intervals, along with the device name and online status Ring provides. We do not collect live video, audio, motion-event recordings, or any biometric data.

What we use it for

Snapshots exist for one purpose: each night they are assembled into your daily timelapse film. They are used for nothing else — no analytics on image content, no advertising, no profiling.

Automated analysis and AI

PorchLapse does not use artificial intelligence, machine learning, or any automated classification system. Films are assembled using fixed, rule-based video encoding (frames are placed in time order and encoded — nothing in the image is analyzed, recognized, or classified). No system learns or trains from your data, and your data is never used to train any model, ours or anyone else's.

Retention

Raw snapshots are deleted immediately after each day's film is rendered (within roughly 24 hours of capture). Finished films are kept for 30 days, then deleted automatically.

Sharing and sub-processors

We do not sell, share, or disclose your images, films, or account information to any third party for their own purposes. Your films are accessible only to you.

PorchLapse runs on Fly.io, Inc. (cloud hosting, United States), which stores data on our behalf as an infrastructure sub-processor. Fly.io does not access or use your data for any purpose other than hosting the service. No other third party processes your data.

Deletion and your rights

Deletion is automatic and self-service, with no email or request required:

The "Delete everything" control in your gallery immediately and permanently removes all films, any pending snapshots, your access tokens, and your account record — including all copies. Unlinking PorchLapse from your Ring app triggers the same immediate, automatic deletion. You may also request deletion, or a copy of your data, by contacting us (see below); we respond within 30 days.

Human access to your images

Snapshot capture and film assembly are fully automated. No person — including the developer — views your snapshots or films in routine operation. A human accesses your data only if you explicitly request support on your account or a copy of your data, and only to fulfill that request.

Opt-outs and your controls

PorchLapse is entirely opt-in: nothing is collected until you complete Ring's account-linking consent, and you choose exactly which cameras participate. You can stop all collection at any time by unlinking PorchLapse in the Ring app, and remove all stored data with the "Delete everything" control. There is no advertising, data sale, or AI training to opt out of — those uses do not occur at all, so no opt-out is needed and declining nothing changes the service you receive.

Reviewing your data

Everything PorchLapse holds for you is visible in your gallery: every finished film, for its full 30-day life. Raw snapshots are transient (deleted when each film renders) and are not viewable separately. Your original Ring recordings remain in your Ring account, under Ring's controls, untouched by PorchLapse.

Changes to analysis capabilities

PorchLapse performs no automated analysis of your images today (see the AI section above). If we ever add analysis or detection features, we will announce them on this page with an updated date, in the app's release notes, and by in-app notice before they take effect.

Security

Access to your Ring account uses Ring's account-linking system; PorchLapse never sees your Ring password. Data is transferred over HTTPS and stored on access-controlled, encrypted infrastructure.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will notify linked users by email or an in-app notice before the change takes effect.
