PorchLapse terms of use

Last updated: July 13, 2026

1. Agreement and acceptance

These terms are a binding agreement between you and PorchLapse ("we," "us"). By linking your Ring account to PorchLapse, subscribing, or using the service, you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not link your account or use the service.

2. Description of service

PorchLapse retrieves still-image snapshots from Ring cameras you select and assembles them into a short daily timelapse film, viewable in your private gallery for 30 days. Film quality and frame density depend on your camera's own capture settings and connectivity.

3. Your responsibilities

You must: (a) own or control the Ring account and cameras you link and have the right to record what they see, including complying with any recording-consent and camera-placement laws that apply where your cameras are installed; (b) keep your Ring and gallery credentials secure; (c) be at least 18 years old or the age of majority where you live; and (d) provide accurate information when subscribing.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use PorchLapse to surveil people without lawful basis, attempt to access other users' data, probe or disrupt the service, resell it, or use it in violation of Ring's terms or applicable law. We may suspend accounts engaged in prohibited use.

5. Data practices

Our collection, use, retention, and deletion of your data are described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms. In short: snapshots are collected only with your consent, used only to make your films, deleted after rendering, and everything is deleted immediately when you unlink or use the delete control.

6. Intellectual property

The films made from your camera's images are yours; you may download and use them freely, subject to Ring's watermark remaining intact as Ring requires. The PorchLapse software, name, and design are ours and are licensed to you for personal use of the service only.

7. Third-party services

PorchLapse depends on the Ring/Amazon API (subject to Ring's own terms and mandatory media watermark) and is hosted on Fly.io infrastructure. We are not responsible for outages or changes in those services, and Ring may change or withdraw API access in ways that affect or end the service.

8. Account termination

You may end this agreement at any time by unlinking PorchLapse in the Ring app or using "Delete everything" in your gallery; your data is deleted immediately and any subscription stops renewing through Ring's billing. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable; upon termination your data is deleted per the privacy policy.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

PorchLapse is provided "as is." It is a creative keepsake service, not a security, safety, or monitoring product — do not rely on it to detect events or preserve evidence. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Modifications to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continuing to use the service after that date is acceptance of the updated terms.
